A Surprise Every Day in Nine Elms…

A Surprise Every Day in Nine Elms…

Throughout December the whole Nine Elms area will be transformed into a giant Advent Calendar of art, as a new Christmas Carol themed window is revealed each night by a different organisation, co-ordinated by Nine Elms Arts Ministry. We speak to Betsy Blatchley, Pioneer Ministry for the Arts in Nine Elms who hopes that this will be a fabulous way to build community and also attract visitors to the area. The trail can be walked until 5th January including an ‘After-Dark’ trail walk with World Heart Beat Academy’s New Orleans Band on 14th December.

Amanda meets Betsy Blatchley at the launch event.

We meet Tim O’Dell – Development Librarian at London Borough of Lambeth who tells us how Lambeth Libraries are celebrating 100 years of free Public Libraries in the UK. Also revealed is how today’s libraries are using modern technology so we can access audiobooks and streaming films and, a continuing surprise in these days, all for free!

Hear how Lambeth libraries will be celebrating the centenary each month in 2020.

Featuring many well-known photographers, this major new exhibition at Gallerie Prints in Wimbledon is also free. When you need some relief from Christmas razzmatazz, take a break by looking at beautifully candid shots of some of the best-known faces of rock and pop including Elvis, The Rolling Stones, Blondie, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Marley. Listen in to our interview to get the story behind the images.

JGM Gallery in Battersea also offers a Christmas free zone in the Habitat Exhibition. Featuring unique objects stretching from design furniture to concept driven art, we speak to the curators of the event to find out how they pulled such an eclectic show together.

But there’s no stopping the pantomime juggernaut. How are you going to decide between Snow White at Richmond Theatre with Jo Brand, Cinderella at Fairfield Halls with Ore Oduba, The Little Prince at the Omnibus in Clapham, Jack & The Beanstalk at Theatre Peckham and yet another Cinderella this time at the New Wimbledon Theatre? No, we don’t know either, but we will bring you some great interviews with the stars of these shows to help you decide.
