Goodbye Grumpy Grandad….

Goodbye Grumpy Grandad….

One of our most wonderful volunteers the one and only Stephen Zetter (Grumpy Grandad) passed away just before Christmas. Steve returned home from our studio after presenting his final radio show on Sunday 17th December. Steve spent the day performing in our annual Christmas Pantomime as the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. He was doing what he did best, making people laugh and loving every minute of it! We were delighted to see Steve’s whole family including his mother in the audience witnessing him with a huge smile on his face and laughing with him.
Wandsworth Radio Director Jason Rosam said “I left him singing out loud to the music he was playing in the studio. It brings me great comfort to know he was happy and enjoying himself in his last few hours.” He went on to say “Steve was a huge character at the station and will be deeply missed. He joined the Wandsworth Radio Sports Team back in 2015 because another volunteer told me he had a friend who talked about nothing else other than football. He went on to become an integral part of the sports team but moved on to present a variety of music shows which always began with the Chesney Hawkes track ‘The one and only”. He thoroughly enjoyed being with us at Wandsworth Radio and supported the station in many ways including dressing up in fish nets, a blue wig, a tutu with his beloved Chelsea kit and make up yesterday for the pantomime.”

Wandsworth Radio Sports Editor Harry Fell saidWhat can I say about the one and only Stephen Zetter? For those of you that had the pleasure of meeting Steve, there’s no chance that you’ll ever forget him (for all the right reasons). He was such a kind, warm and generous gentleman with a huge heart. I had the honour of working with him for nearly two years and I loved every second. His support and contribution to the team was so great that without him The Sports Show simply wouldn’t exist; it certainly won’t be the same again. He was a fantastic community man who never failed to make new volunteers feel extremely welcome and worked tirelessly with local sides to give them the coverage that they so greatly deserve. I am truly devastated at his passing but feel so lucky to have known him and to call him a friend.”

Steve’s funeral is at Putney Crematorium on Friday 20th January at 12.15pm. Steve and his family very kindly asked for donations to make sure the radio station he loved is able to keep running. You can donate to Wandsworth Radio on behalf of Steve here…. In Memory of Steve, station director Jason Rosam has announced we will name our main radio studio the Stephen Zetter studio. We will miss you Steve, goodbye grumpy grandad….
